About
There are 10 sub-zones in the Jurong East area; Boon Lay, Toh Guan, Yuhua, Jurong Lake, Jurong Regional Centre, International Business Park, Jurong River, Teban Gardens, Jurong Port and Penjuru Crescent.

Jurong East New Town located in the western region of Singapore is a neighbouring town of Clementi; it covers some 17 sq km worth of land space 43% of which are for residential purposes. The town accommodates approximately 90,000 residents with its 22,600 units of flats, most of which are 4 roomers followed closely by 3 roomers. There are also about 1,800 units of executive flats.

History
The river in Jurong was once infested with crocodiles. Jurong was also a hilly jungle with fish and prawn ponds. Singapore's first business park, the International Business Park is found here.

Place of Interest
You can find many green areas here like Jurong Park and Jurong Country Club. The Chinese and Japanese Gardens are among other favourites too. The town also has a shopping complex that houses Singapore’s one and only ice-skating rink amongst other usual mall amenities, which is closely located to the town’s main mode of transportation.

The town is also famous for its Science Park/Science Centre, the area even has its own Golf course. Another mega shopping mall is IMM, which is host to Giant Hypermart, Akira stores and various other shopping facilities.

Residential
Expect more waterfront housing along Jurong River as more industries are phased out in this area.

Transport
The town is served mainly by the Jurong East MRT station found on the East-West Line of the Mass Rapid Transit System. The town is also accessible via the Jurong East bus interchange.
