With the persistent rain these couple of weeks, who wouldn’t love a good bowl of Fish Soup? Han Kee Fish Soup is located on the second floor of Amoy Food Centre and it is one of the most popular stalls here.

If you are heading there during lunch hour, you will be able to see a snake long queue but trust me, it is worth the wait. Each bowl of soup comes with a clear soup broth and is filled with fresh sliced fish. Definitely, the perfect dish to get on a chilly day.

2. The Original Vadai

I am sure you have heard of The Original Vadai, which they started selling Vadai at Pasar Malams. Due to Covid, Pasar Malams had to cease operations but they eventually managed to open their first store at Golden Mile Food Centre.

I get that Vadai may not be enough for lunch, but if you still have space in your stomach be sure to pop by The Original Vadai. They have many different Vadais such as Prawn Vadai and Ikan Bilis Vadai which cost $1.20, while the Cheese Vadai costs $4.50.

4. Yuan Chun Famous Lor Mee

Yuan Chun Famour Lor Mee is one of the most popular stores in Amoy Food Centre. They used to be located at Boon Tat but have since relocated to Amoy Street with many of their loyal fans still patronising the stall to this day. However, many customers have noticed the drop in standards, but we think it’s still worth a shot to try the Lor Mee if you happen to be in the area.

 A bowl of Lor Mee from this store comes with braised pork belly, meat roll, crispy fried fritters and bean sprouts. You have the choice to choose the type of noodles you want, which will be drenched with the thick and viscous Lor Mee gravy.

5. Swan City Noodle House

Swan City Noodle House serves Sarawak Kampua Noodles which is similar to Sarawak Kolo Mee which we are all familiar with. At first look, you will notice that Kampua Noodles are straight unlike Kolo Mee which is usually curly.

They also provide Sarawak Laksa and Kosong Kolo Mee but you have the option to add on Chicken Cutlet and Roast Pork, among others. Many customers have also praised them for being generous with ingredients and for serving Authentic Sarawak dishes.

6. Big Bowls Project

Big Bowls Project is a Muslim-owned hawker stall that provides rice bowls such as Mentaiko Salmon Bowl, Szechuan Black Bean Salmon Bowl and Truffle Oil Salmon Bowl. Over the past few years, they have also released new items such as the Chix Bowl and seasonal items.

Each of their rice bowl comes with Salmon, Cherry Tomatoes, Cucumber and Onsen egg, the perfect balanced meal. Their Mentaiko Salmon Bowl cost $9.50 which is pretty affordable compared to other places. Order their rice bowls to get your daily fix of carbs, protein and vitamins!

7. Hong Kee Beef Noodles

Hong Kee Beef Noodle is another Michelin Bib Gourmand gem and they have been around for more than 50 years. The broth for the Beef Noodles is simmered for at least 24 hours which gives the broth a more in-depth flavour.

Each bowl of Beef Noodles costs $6 that comes with salted vegetables, tender beef balls and beef slices. If you are not a fan of soup, you can also opt for the dry version of the Beef Noodles.

This Char Kway Teow stall has been around since 1960, the store was located at Boon Tat Street before relocating to Amoy Street. The stall owner has been serving its loyal customers with Wok Hei Char Kway Teow.

A simple plate of Char Kway Teow for $4 that comes with your usual ingredients such as Chinese sausage, cockles and bean sprouts. The Char Kway Teow is also lighter in colour and less oily, making you feel like you are eating a healthy plate of Char Kway Teow.

9. Pepper Bowl

You might have heard of Pepper Bowl if you were studying in SP back in the day as they used to be at one of the canteens in SP. Ever 2012, Pepper Bowl has moved to Amoy Street to continue serving us with peppery dishes.

Their signature dish would be the Black Pepper Beef Hor Fun, add an onsen egg to your meal for just 60 cents extra. The black pepper adds a fiery kick to the dish, so if you love spice this is the perfect dish for you. The eggy and silky Hor Fun is also drenched in the thickened gravy, the addition of an onsen egg also helps to thicken the gravy.

10. Mad Roaster

Mad Roaster is something more than just a coffee place as they are working to help refugees out with the profits they have made. You might have noticed that their logo on the packaging is in a different colour as refugees are being paid around 50 cents for each paper cup they colour.

Here at Mad Roaster, you can find your usual Espresso, Americano and Latte but they also have some specials on the menu. These specials include Honey Butter Latte, Matcha Latte and Cereal Milk, it is quite impressive as it is just a humble store in a hawker centre. Head down to Mad Roaster to grab your daily dose of caffeine while you help create livelihoods for refugees.
