Us Singaporeans are really spoiled with the plethora of amazing hawker food – Hokkien Mee, Lor Mee, Kway Chap and many more. One of my favourite hawker centre to visit is Old Airport Road Food Centre, here are 10 food stalls you must try when you are there.

#1. Xin Mei Xiang Zheng Zong Lor Mee

Zheng Zong Lor Mee is one of the most popular stalls at this food centre with snake-long queues. A bowl of their Lor Mee comes with fresh fish, garlic, vinegar, red pepper, eggs, and stewed meat. A perfect combination that will make your day.

The noodles in the bowl of Lor Mee are covered in a rich, gooey gravy flavored with five different spices and herbs. There are 3 different sizes - S$4 for small, S$5 for medium, and S$6 for large. Be an early bird to get this delicious, hearty bowl of Lor Mee!

#2. Nam Sing Hokkien Mee

Nam Sing has been around since the 60s that specialises in Hokkien Mee. Many people have raved about this stall and some of them have even travelled all the way to Old Airport Road Food Centre just for a plate of Nam Sing Hokkien Mee.

Each plate comes with a combination of bee hoon and yellow noodles, fresh shrimp, and bits of eggs marinated in seafood stock. The al dente noodles and savoury seafood flavours smeared on top make it a smash thanks to the mild wok hei smokiness.

#3. Roast Paradise

Roast Paradise is my favourite go to stall when I am craving for some roasted pork rice. They take pride in making their char siew by cooking it over charcoal for 3 hours before basting it with a sweet sauce to create a shimmering layer of caramelization.

The char siew rice comes with fragrant chicken rice and with every bite, you will be able to taste the distinct smokiness of the char siew. The meat is also very tender and moist with a slight sweetness that comes from the sauce.

#4 To-Ricos Guo Shi

This Michelin Bib Gourmand list kway chap comes with rice noodles, pork belly, pigs intestines and braised egg. You may think that the kway chap looks plain and flavourless, but trust me it is flavoursome.

The innards are cleaned well and it does not have an awful smell, unlike many other hawker stalls. The silky smooth rice noodles goes well with the chewy innards and fatty pork belly, you definitely have to add some chilli sauce on it if you are a fan of spice.

#5. Hua Ji XO Fish Head Bee Hoon

If you are a fan of milky fish soup, Hua Ji XO Fish Head Bee Hoon will not disappoint you. Of couse their signature dish would be the Fish Head Been Hoon, the broth is made using fish bones that are boiled for at least 6 hours.

The fried fish is also fried perfectly which has a tender and meaty bite to it. It doesn’t have that fishy taste as it is fresh. The portions are huge, so if you are craving for some hot soup on a rainy day, this is the perfect meal for you.

#6. Minced Pork Bros

One of my favourite dishes from a hawker centre would be Bak Chor Mee – Springy Mee Kia noodles topped with Mushrooms and a mountain of Minced Pork. But have you heard of BCM topped with Ikura?

At Minced Pork Bros, they have 4 different types of BCM. I would recommend you to try their Seafood Minced Pork Noodles, it comes with Prawns, Ikura, Fish Dumpling and even Scallops. An interesting combination for a bowl of BCM!

#7. Unkai Japanese Cuisine

Yes yes, I know that people don’t go to a food centre to look for Japanese food, but Unkai Japanese Cuisine is really unique. They serve great seafood such grilled hotate, fresh oysters, sashimi, and crabs.

They even have traditional Japanese fare like tempura, soba, and udon meals. The oysters are shucked up once order is being made, so you don’t have to worry about the freshness. Treat yourself to an amazing meal at Unkai Japanese Cuisine.

Freshly Made Chee Cheong Fun has been around Old Airport Road for around 20 years and they have 10 unique flavours of chee cheong fun. They also serve congee and many other sides.

Some of the flavours they have for chee cheong fun are Pork Liver, Egg, Century Egg and Otah. I am sure you will not be able to find these anywhere in Singapore, head down to try out these interesting flavours!

J & J Special Beef Noodle offers beef noodles made with premium beef at an affordable cost. The melt-in-your-mouth braised beef tendon and slices are simply irresistible. They even provide wagyu beef with rice or noodles.

Curry puffs can be quite jelak, either from an overpowering curry mixture or from a dense pastry casing. Wang Wang Crispy Curry Puff makes curry puffs with a creamy center and crispy pastry coating that has a perfect balance of flavours.

The owner of the stall wakes up very early in the morning to fold and roll curry puffs, ensuring that each curry puff is filled with big chunks of ingredients. Some other flavours that they sell are yam, sardine and black pepper chicken.
